Valdez, AK
This past summer my family and I took a trip to Valdez! The drive took us about five and a half hours. This was in part due to delays by road construction. From Anchorage, the drive to Valdez is 299 miles (481 km). The drive from Palmer to Valdez is very pretty and on a clear day you can see the mountains near the road and those far off in the distance. If you are visiting Alaska and want to drive a long and beautiful scenic route, then I would highly recommend driving to Valdez. Crow Pass Trail
The Crow Pass Trail is a 23 mile segment of the Historic Iditarod Trail. The Iditarod Trail ran from Seward to Nome and was around 1,000 miles long with over 1,400 miles of side trails connecting to towns and villages. This trail was used as a path to transport mail via dogsled to various places. The Historic Iditarod Trail is famous for its use by dog sledding teams that ran life saving vaccine up to Nome from Seward for a diphtheria outbreak. Hiking Resurrection Pass
The Resurrection Pass trail is just over 38 miles long. The elevation changes from 500-2600 feet. One end of the trail is located near Hope, (about 2 hours outside of Anchorage), and the other is in Cooper Landing, due south. The hike (if you do the whole thing) is a point-to-point hike, not an out and back hike. If you plan on doing this hike you will either need to have someone pick you up once you get to the other side, or you will need a car at each trailhead. We did the hike in 5 days and 4 nights.
